AT A GLANCE
An Electric Motor Systems Technician is a skilled worker who tests, rebuilds, and repairs electric motors, generators, transformers, controllers, and other related electric equipment used in commercial, industrial, and institutional establishments. An electric motor winder will test and disassemble the equipment, repair or replace defective and worn components, and reassemble and test the equipment to ensure it meets specifications.
An Electric Motor Systems Technician must perform tasks competently and safely in a shop environment. Some of the duties include:
- Diagnosing Problems
- Stripping of equipment
- Repairing, rebuilding and testing electrical equipment including motors, generators, transformers, and control equipment
- Rewinding motors of varying sizes
- Using appropriate testing equipment
- Using hand and power tools
- Insulating operations
- Taking data
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environments for construction careers can be located outdoors or indoors or both. Work hours may vary as well. Some positions are seasonal while others are all year round, but part-time. Other positions are project-based and may require you to work full-time until the project is complete. And, of course there are careers that have full-time hours all year round.
